The Bank of England’s new Banknote Checking Scheme was launched on 10 October. There are currently a total of 38 live businesses participating in The Partnership’s loyalty scheme, with recently new businesses joining all the time, our most recent include Radiance Beauty on Charlotte Place and Yumchaa on Tottenham Street.
Since October 2014, we have saved nearly £10,000 for just 19 members on pest control alone! That’s a lot of unhappy mice, bugs and pigeons being evacuated from the area, but lots of happy businesses!

Fitzrovia Lights up this Christmas season with a number of festive events. Culminating in a late night shopping experience and The @FitzroviaFestive Pop-Up outside the Building Centre on Thursday 27 November 12 – 8pm.
Air Quality has a significant impact on the health of those working, living and visiting Fitzrovia. The BID is aiming to improve this Fitzrovia, one of London’s most challenged areas.
Many businesses are put off tendering by the jargon, the bureaucracy, and the long processes; often they cannot even find suitable opportunities to bid for.
The workshop is an introduction for both businesses new to tendering and those who have had some previous success but now want to develop their skills by learning the tricks of successful bid writing.

Crossrail 2 is a proposed new rail line between south west and north east London which would ease commuter overcrowding and stimulate new development opportunities along the route. Transport for London (TfL) has today (June 9) formally launched a consultation into Crossrail 2.

Following a year long Government backed pilot scheme, Camden council has approved plans to permanently close Warren Street to traffic.
In early April, The Fitzrovia Partnership undertook a consultation exercise with local traders and residents to determine whether or not the street should be unnavigable to permanent traffic.
Reduce The Strength was set up to encourage local off-licences and supermarkets to stop selling low cost, super strength lager, cider, and beer’s with an alcohol volume of 6.5% or more.
With high levels of pollution hitting the headlines in recent weeks, The Fitzrovia Partnership is working hard to lower the levels of pollution in the area.

Whereas in the 60s, the smog was visible, today it is invisible – misleading us all into thinking there is no problem, or not being aware at all. So we’ve now got a new Clean Air Ambassador to help us change things.
Following on from the Business Crime Survey that was completed in September 2013, which saw 40% of respondents suggest that more crime prevention advice and workshops would reduce crime levels in Fitzrovia, the Partnership have been discussing issues with business on a regular basis, both at the Crime Partnership meeting and on a 1-2-1 basis.
Shanta Bhagwandin joins the team from Kingston First BID, where as Events Manager, she was responsible for writing and delivering a creative events and marketing strategy that was able to increase footfall that delivered a positive profile of the Town Centre.
Crossrail may handle a quarter of a billion visitors in Central London every year by 2026, according to the latest research conducted by world-leading engineering firm Arup.
The report, entitled ‘The impact of Crossrail on visitor numbers in Central London’, has identified that Crossrail could well deliver significantly more passengers to the heart of the capital than previously estimated.
Reduce the Strength is a pilot initiative for the south of Camden which involves all licence holders of Supermarkets and Off Licences voluntarily removing the opportunity to sell super strength lagers and ciders in Fitzrovia and surrounding areas.
The Metropolitan Police, NHS Foundation Trust, Camden Council, and The Fitzrovia Partnership are working together in an effort to end the sale of this kind of alcohol, which has serious effects on consumers and communities.

This month, the BID’s Fitzrovia Business Crime Partnership, which has been established for local businesses to identify and share information and pictures of known criminals operating in the area, is now hosting its latest steering group meeting next month.
The initiative, with the support of the Ambassadors, Neighbourhood Policing Team and Camden Business Against Crime,will begin with a steering group that will meet on a monthly basis to discuss issues and see where resources would be best used.
The Close the Door campaign works to stop shops wasting energy by keeping their doors open when using heating or air-conditioning. It is a business-friendly, non-profit organisation who’s admin staff and campaigners work on a voluntary basis. The campaign is active in cities around the country and works nationally with head offices of the chains.
The festive period may now be a distant memory, but our Christmas @Fitzrovia promotion will certainly carry a long legacy.
The well received Christmas @Fitzrovia newspaper was packed full of fantastic gifts, offers and festive ideas available across the area, including Tottenham Court Road, such as at the street’s flagship store Heal’s and Paperchase. In our Eat @Fitzrovia section, BID Members such as Pied a Terre and Pescatori showcased some of the more unusual Christmas dinners that were on offer at the world renowned Charlotte Street. Our 30,000 copies were snapped up before the end of the campaign, with a record number finding their way into local offices, homes and eager visitors.

Following on from the successful Christmas lights switch-on for Fitzrovia, The Fitzrovia Partnership Business Improvement District and University College London Hospital (UCLH) are today launching a gift appeal and calling on local businesses and the community to make a difference this Christmas by spreading some festive cheer, raising a smile and ensuring that the many children who are receiving treatment at the UCLH over the festive period, don’t miss out.
