PROJECT: LONDON FESTIVAL OF ARCHITECTURE

The Fitzrovia Partnership and London Festival of Architecture have formed a four year partnership to showcase Fitzrovia, often referred to as the spiritual home of architecture. This month long celebration of architecture and city-making, takes place every June across London. The Festival’s mission is to open up discussions around architecture, test new ideas and uncover and promote new talent.

What makes the LFA unique is that the LFA programme is people-led and curated by event organisers; focussed on collaboration with the people who live, shape, and truly know London. It’s the breadth and creativity of this community of event organisers that delivers such a varied and engaging programme of events for the festival each June.

LFA at 20 – Reimagine

London Festival of Architecture (LFA) came to Fitzrovia for the first time during June 2024. Fitzrovia was a LFA Destination which embraced the month-long celebration with more than 24 engaging events, and it was home to its first public realm competition and street activation which saw Warren Street ‘Reimagined’. The highly creative temporary intervention outside Warren Street tube station, by Able Partners and Elliott Wood, showcased how a difficult area can be transformed into a well-used public realm space.

The official launch of Rabbit Warren Street took place on 6 June with a two-day street activation managed by The Fitzrovia Partnership. Local businesses successfully used the extended footprint for food, drink and retail offers with live music in place for the opening day.

LFA in Fitzrovia was made up of three key elements in 2024:

Built Project: Rabbit Warren Street

June 2024

Fitzrovia hosted an architectural competition showcasing how a difficult area can be transformed into a well-used public realm space.

The exciting placemaking intervention was funded by corporate sponsors, it builds on Fitzrovia’s history of pushing creative boundaries and aims to shift perspectives on what can be done with the public realm to pave the way for future schemes.

Street Activation: Rabbit Warren Street Party

6 – 7 June 2024

Warren Street was transformed into a pedestrian-friendly ‘meadow’ for the launch of LFA 2024.

Local independent bars, restaurants, retail outlets showcased their offerings, with limited time menu items and drinks and local discounts.  A live band played on Thursday and the activation provided extended street dining from 8am – 8pm.

Fitzrovia Destination

June 2024

Fitzrovia-wide celebrations took place throughut the month with more than 24 events in June, including Fitzrovia Lates, a diverse and inclusive evening of events, workshops and exhibitions for Londoners and visitors to explore architectural practices in the district.

Developed collaboratively with local stakeholders, these events bring together creativity, community and city-making practices which reflect the unique identities of people and the area.

The Fitzrovia Partnership provides a cohesive approach to help businesses achieve shared objectives and as an area we are making great strides to achieve a more economic and environmentally sustainable district.
