Travel in London

Government guidelines are to avoid public transport if at all possible, or travel out of peak times avoiding 05:45-08:15 and 16:00-17:30 and as shops begin to open TfL is advising that it will be busier in the evenings, until around 19:00. Check the busiest stations and times to travel

Congestion Charge changes from 22 June

The following changes to the Congestion Charge are critical for keeping London’s streets moving while public transport capacity is so drastically reduced:

  • Daily charge increase from £11.50 to £15 per day (£17.50 for those paying during the three days after the day of travel).
  • Charging hours extended to 07:00 to 22:00 and operate seven days a week, all year (except Christmas Day)
  • No Auto Pay and Fleet Auto Pay £1 daily discount
  • No new applications for residents’ discount scheme from 1 August. Applications received up to and including 31 July will be accepted. Existing discount holders will continue to receive the discount for their currently registered vehicle and any replacements.
  • Expanding the NHS patient reimbursement scheme and creating new reimbursement arrangements for local authorities and charities providing services in response to the pandemic.
