There are many non-government funding initiatives to support businesses and indivuals during these difficult times.

Pay It Forward

‘Pay it Forward’ is a community movement by Crowdfunder to support British businesses when they need it most.

Supporters, customers, punters and fans across the UK are paying for goods and services in advance to ease cash flow problems for the things that matter most to them in their community. Pledge to support yours on Crowdfunder today.


London Community Response

London Funders is spearheading the London Community Response to create an ‘easy to access process’ for these and other community organisations across the capital to receive financial support.

Wave 1 Small Grants: This first wave of funding from the collaboration of funders is for urgent needs so that you can cover costs that you are incurring right now to support communities affected by the covid-19 outbreak and the move to social distancing, with a focus on food and essentials. Groups have said that they are incurring additional expenditure to meet short-term needs around food and essential items such as mobile phones, data and cleaning products in these initial weeks. This funding is intended to enable covering these essential and urgent costs so that you can carry on providing support to Londoners.


Art Council Artists Relief

Arts Council England is now offering a £160m emergency fund for artists and creative organisations.

 Arts Council England (ACE) has drawn the majority of its emergency reserves into a £160m response package for individuals and organisations affected by Covid-19.


Landlords rent relief

Public and private sector landlords are stepping forward to offer commercial tenants rent relief and other support, from the City of London CorporationTfL and Network Rail, to ArgentCadogan and Grosvenor

Tesco Community Food Connection Covid-19

Tesco is to offer a £30 million package of support to local communities throughout the Covid-19 crisis. This will include a £25 million food donations programme.

The supermarket currently donates £3 million worth of food every month via its existing Community Food Connection scheme and distribution centres. Through this new scheme, Tesco will provide a top up food donation of £15 million of food to FareShare and the Trussell Trust over the next 12 weeks. It will also donate a further £1 million to support the charities’ operations. Tesco stores will have access to funds to help local causes in their areas too.

The Drinks Trust Covid-19 Relief Fund

The Drinks Trust is providing grants to those in the drinks industry who have lost their job and/or income and aren’t eligible for the governments covid-19 financial support schemes. They can receive a grant of £250.

Applicants will be subject to one of the following two situations:

  1. Been made redundant and not furloughed

  2. Been on a zero hours contract and worked limited hours in recent months

In order to apply for assistance, the applicant must have been employed in the drinks industry for a minimum period of 2 years.

Queen Mary Enterprise Zone – Pump Priming Fund 2020

A Pump Priming Fund (PPF) is available through the QME Zone to fund life science businesses for up to £50k for a development project to be undertaken in collaboration with Queen Mary academic and research staff.

Facebook is offering $100M in cash grants and ad credits for up to 30,000 eligible small businesses in over 30 countries where they operate.

Mozilla – MOSS launches COVID-19 Solutions Fund

Mozilla have created a COVID-19 Solutions Fund as part of the Mozilla Open Source Support Program (MOSS). Through this fund, they will provide awards of up to $50,000 each to open source technology projects which are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic in some way.

Film & TV Charity – Grant for Film and TV workers

The Film and TV COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund has been created in partnership with the BFI.  One-off grants will be provided from £500 to £2,500 to active workers in film, TV and cinema facing significant financial hardship as a result of the Covid-19 crisis.
