WASTE AND RECYCLING – Update from 1 April 2024

Let’s Do FitZero – Member Benefits

The Fitzrovia Partnership is committed to helping businesses work towards the goal of Carbon Net Zero. From 1 April 2024, The Fitzrovia Partnership will incentivise recycling-only. BID members and full-paying voluntary members can take advantage of the following waste and recycling member benefits:

1. Free recycling allocations

Members using First Mile are provided with an annual allocation of free recycling bags (including all single-stream bags). The allocation varies per member and is dependent on the rateable value of the member businesses.  The free allocations do not include general waste bags.

2. Preferential rates with preferred suppliers

All our preferred suppliers offer preferential rates to our member businesses:

  • Veolia offers up to 20% off waste and recycling.
  • First Mile offer up to 53% off recycling bags, including single-stream bags.
  • Biffa offers preferred supplier contract rates.

Fitzrovia’s Preferred Suppliers for Waste and Recycling

The Fitzrovia Partnership conducted a preferred supplier tender in 2022 for waste and recycling. The three preferred suppliers operating in Fitzrovia meeting the following standards:

  1. Vehicle types with consideration to engine type and emissions of current fleet vehicles. Specific details of vehicles can be provided. 
  2. Details and timescales of plans to migrate to an emission free at tail pipe fleet in Fitzrovia.
  3. Approach to recycling and the range of materials that could be recycled
  4. Level of support for businesses to increase levels of recycling e.g. workplace behavioural change initiatives
  5. How non-recyclable waste is treated and what proportion goes to landfill.

VEOLIA CAMDEN

Veolia Camden is Camden Council’s preferred waste and recycling supplier for residents and they have a responsibility for keeping Fitzrovia’s streets clean and clear. The Fitzrovia Partnership already work closely with Veolia Camden to manage rubbish and fly-tipping hotspots in the area.
