A Business Improvement District, or BID, is a defined area where local businesses vote to collectively invest and improve their commercial area. It is funded by a levy on eligible businesses, and the money is reinvested into services over and above those provided by the local authority, such as cleaning, safety, sustainability, placemaking and local area promotion. 

The Fitzrovia Partnership BID represents more than 250 businesses in Camden and over 170 businesses in Westminster. 

A BID operates for a fixed period, in this case five years. The Fitzrovia Camden BID is up for renewal in 2027, and Fitzrovia Westminster in 2028. At the end of the term Members will vote on whether or not to renew for a new term. If not, the BID ends and its levy-funded services stop. 

If your business rates are over £160,000 you are automatically entitled to the benefits of the partnership. If your rates are below this threshold, you can voluntarily join. Send us an email to hear more about our membership services and find out how you can be a part of it.

The Camden BID term and business plan runs from 1 August 2022 to 31 July 2027. 

The levy is set at 1% of the rateable value from the 2017 list as at 1 April 2022.

The Westminster BID term and business plan runs from 1 December 2023 to 30 November 2028.

The levy is set at 1% of the rateable value from the 2017 list as at 31 March 2023.

Fitzrovia is a vibrant neighbourhood in central London, between Marylebone, Bloomsbury, Soho, and Regent's Park. It sits across the London Boroughs of Camden and Westminster and is within easy walking distance of Oxford Street, Tottenham Court Road, Euston, and Regent's Park

Fitzrovia is exceptionally well connected. It's accessed via several tube and rail stations, including Tottenham Court Road, Goodge Street, Warren Street, Great Portland Street, Euston Square, and Euston. It's also well served by numerous bus routes and is easy to reach by bike or on foot.

The name Fitzrovia has its roots in the Fitzroy family and the development of the area in the 18th Century. Charles Fitzroy, who later became Baron Southampton, developed much of the land around what is now Fitzroy Square, giving his name to Fitzroy Square and Fitzroy Street.

The name 'Fitzrovia', however, came much later. It is generally believed to have emerged in the 1930s, when the Fitzroy Tavern on Charlotte Street became a popular meeting place for writers, artists, and other bohemian characters. The name was initially something of a nickname for the area before becoming widely adopted to describe the broader neighbourhood.

Fitzrovia is famous for its mix of independent businesses, restaurants, cafes, creative industries, historic streets, and distinctive character. It has long had a strong connection with artists, writers, architects, and other creative communities, while today being home to a diverse mix of businesses, residents, visitors, and institutions. 

Fitzrovia boasts many iconic buildings and places including The BT Tower, an enduring distinctive feature of the London skyline since it was constructed in 1964. Originally called the Post Office Tower, at 177 metres it was the tallest building in London at the time. It's about to go through it's latest reincarnation to become a hotel-led mixed-use development. 

Fitzrovia is also home to the Fitzrovia Chapel, a beautifully restored Gothic Revival building once part of the former Middlesex Hospital.

Fitzrovia has a long association with artists, writers, and other creative figures. George Orwell, Virginia Woolf, Dylan Thomas, and Arthur Rimbaud are among the many names connected with the area, while the neighbourhood has continued to attract creative and cultural communities over the years. 

Today, film director, Guy Richie's pub The Lore of the Land sits in the heart of Fitzrovia. 

The Fitzroy name comes from the FitzRoy family, whose name is linked to the development of this part of London. Charles FitzRoy inherited the Manor of Tottenhall and developed Fitzroy Square in the late 18th Century, with nearby Fitzroy Street also taking its name from him. 

Despite being at the heart of Fitzrovia, Charlotte Street's name bears no connection to the Fitzroy family. The street was formed in the 1760s and named in honour of Queen Charlotte, who married King George III in 1761.

Charlotte Street has since become one of Fitzrovia's best-known streets and is often described as the 'foodie' street.
