It is now less than one month to go until the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) expands up to, but not including, the North and South Circular Roads on 25 October.
The central London ULEZ that is already in placehas been transformational since its introduction in April 2019, helping to reduce roadside concentrations of the poisonous gas nitrogen dioxide in the central zone by nearly half. Expanding the ULEZ will bring the health benefits of cleaner air to millions more people both inside and outside of the zone.
Along with the ULEZ expansion, tougher standards for LEZ also came into action for heavy good vehicles from April 2021 already showing promising results, 95% of large and heavy vehicles operating in London now meet the standards, up from 48% in February 2017 when the scheme was announced.
Improving air quality is a top priority to reduce hospitalisations due to air pollution, and improve air quality for millions inside and outside of London.
