From Monday 15 November, Westminster Bridge will undergo safety upgrade works, including the installation of permanent barriers for cyclists and pedestrians. The bridge will remain open, but only one lane for each direction.
In addition, from Monday 22 November to Thursday 9 December, motorised traffic will not be able to turn right from Westminster Bridge on to Victoria Embankment. A signed diversion will be in place around Parliament Square and Bridge Street.
Cyclists will still be able to use the bridge but may find it easier to use other routes across the river.
There will be some overnight closures
Some overnight closures of the bridge will be required whilst we safely make changes to the traffic management. These closures will take place between 21:00 and 05:00 on the following nights:
- Monday 22 to Tuesday 23 November
- Friday 10 to Saturday 11 December
- Sunday 19 to Monday 20 December
- Tuesday 18 to Wednesday 19 January
- Thursday 27 to Friday 28 January
Between Tuesday 1 and Friday 4 February, the bridge will be closed each night from 9pm to 5am in the early morning for final resurfacing and new road markings.
