TfL’s new Works for London programme has been devised to make the capitals roads safer, greener and more efficient, by working with and bringing together three infrastructure companies in charge of highways and maintenance for roads, bus and street assets. These companies also install cycle lanes, cycle tracks and cycle stands and play a large role in cycling infrastructure. The programme will take place over eight years to help develop schemes for promoting cycling around the capital.
Sustainability will be at the heart of these developments. As part of the programme, 70% of all street lights TfL uses will be LED by the end of 2023,which will reduce TfL’s electricity use by 65%. New cycleways and walkways will also be introduced into our expanding cycle network, all to help cut congestion, reduce air pollution and road danger.
