FUTURE FOCUSED FITZROVIA

In Fitzrovia, innovation and sustainability go hand in hand to shape a greener, brighter future. From B Corp Certifications to the City of Westminster’s Sustainable City Charter and initiatives exploring a micro circular economy, discover how Fitzrovia’s champions of change are future-proofing their businesses while safeguarding the planet.

B Corp Certified Businesses

B Corp Certification is a designation that a business is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials. The certification is holistic, not exclusively focused on a single social or environmental issue. And the process to achieve and maintain certification is rigorous and requires engaging teams and departments across your company.

There is a growing list of proud Fitzrovian businesses who have achieved B Corp Certification, including:

“Our B Corp certification reflects our intention to build a movement of businesses aligned to accelerating positive impact. We want to attract both clients and talent with a shared ambition to leave the world better than they found it.”

Sustainable City Charter

The Sustainable City Charter is a pledge for owners, managers and occupiers of non-domestic buildings in Westminster.

Non-domestic buildings contribute 71% of the city’s greenhouse gas emissions. Organisations which own, manage or occupy non-domestic buildings in Westminster are taking climate action by signing the Sustainable City Charter.

The charter is a free, voluntary sustainability pledge supported by the Westminster Property Association and Westminster City Council. It contains eight commitments to reduce carbon emissions from non-domestic buildings, covering areas such as energy use, procurement, transport, waste, and deliveries. The charter also commits to net zero buildings by 2040 or earlier.

Signatories in Fitzrovia include:

Cavendish Living Lab | University of Westminster

The Cavendish Living Lab focuses on co-creating sustainable solutions to real world problems. Students from the University of Westminster work collaboratively with their peers, academics, and various stakeholders to address issues such as food waste, plastic waste and wastewater.

Together with local Fitzrovia businesses the Living Lab is working to create a circular economy in Fitzrovia. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Alice.

Kaffeine

Cavendish Living Lab recycle coffee grounds from Kaffeine into microgreens, which are donated to the Fitzrovia Soup Kitchen. This collaboration highlights how a local micro-circular economy can operate in practice.

Charlotte Street Hotel
