Food is at the heart of every community, bringing people together across cultures and traditions. In Fitzrovia, with its vibrant restaurants, food is a shared experience, a conversation, a reflection of the diversity of the people who live and work there.
Fitzrovia is also renowned for its rich Georgian and Victorian heritage. S-shaped love seats became popular in the 19th century and would have been commonplace in the elegant townhouses and salons of Fitzrovia.
The Leftovers Love Seat brings together these two Fitzrovia traditions by creating a love seat made using recycled waste from local restaurants and cafes. Waste ranging from oyster shells, wine bottles, plastic forks and broken china plates will be collected from a range of restaurants and cafes in Fitzrovia. The waste materials will be ground down into small fragments, which can be cast into a love seat, which represents Fitzrovia’s rich and eclectic cultural identity.
