PROGRAMME 3: ENVIRONMENTAL & PLACE

London Climate Action Week (LCAW) 2025

Carbon Emissions

Home of the Built Environment

Fitzrovia stands proudly at the forefront of sustainable transformation in the built environment. Nestled in the heart of London’s west end, this vibrant district is more than just a postcode — it is a living laboratory for the future of the built environment. Home to pioneering architecture, cutting-edge design, and a community committed to environmental excellence, Fitzrovia is showing what it means to construct and operate buildings responsibly.

During London Climate Action Week, we celebrate Fitzrovia’s role as a catalyst for positive change. From net-zero carbon construction to circular economy principles, from wellness-focused workspaces to smart, future-ready infrastructure—this is where innovation meets impact. Each building featured below tells a story of ambition, collaboration, and a shared vision for a greener, healthier city.

Fitzrovia is not only shaping skylines but also shaping a sustainable legacy for generations to come and setting the standard in what can be achieved in sustainability for all of London’s districts.

Air Quality

Biodiversity in Place

We were proud to support a recent community planting day in Fitzrovia, led by the amazing team at Fitzrovia Youth in Action. It was a powerful reminder that small, local actions can have a big impact in addressing global challenges like the climate crisis.

But why does increasing urban biodiversity matter?

In areas like Fitzrovia — where green space is limited — every tree, shrub, and flower plays a vital role. Plants don’t just make our streets more beautiful, they help clean our air, cool our neighbourhoods, support pollinators, remove carbon from the atmosphere, reduce flood risk and improve mental wellbeing for our community.

These green interventions may be modest in size, but they contribute to building a healthier, more resilient city for everyone.

The Power of Urban Plants: Geranium, Petunia, Bacopa & Phormium

In city environments, planting greenery is more than decorative—it’s a small but powerful step toward climate action. The combination of flowering plants like Geranium, Petunia, and Bacopa, along with the hardy foliage of Phormium, offers a range of environmental benefits that support cleaner air, cooler streets, and stronger biodiversity.

Climate Action Connection

Together, these plants form a small but mighty climate solution. By improving air quality, supporting pollinators, reducing urban heat, and promoting biodiversity, they help cities become more resilient and livable in a warming world. Even small-scale planting in balconies, schoolyards, or public spaces plays a role in the broader movement toward greener, healthier urban environments.

Sustainability is an increasingly important factor for a multi-campus organisation in Fitzrovia but we can’t do it on our own. To deliver sustainable solutions, we need to work collectively as an area. The Fitzrovia Partnership is making this happen.
