PROGRAMME 3: ENVIRONMENTAL & PLACE

How business can help shape better cities

Placemaking Europe 2025

Cities are shaped not only by governments and planners but by the people and businesses that bring them to life. At The Fitzrovia Partnership, we believe businesses can be powerful forces for positive change.

During Placemaking Europe Week 2025, our Director of Policy and Place, Marcos Gold, spoke alongside Ana Rivas De Gante from Street Experiments for Transition about how Business Improvement Districts can turn ideas into impact real, visible change and improvements, using of 2025 LFA public realm intervention Fitz&Sits, as a key example. This intervention helped create more welcoming spaces for people to pause and connect in the heart of Fitzrovia during summer 2025.

Placemaking is one of our core missions. Working with local authorities, partners and the community, we’re developing a wider strategy for Fitzrovia that focuses on improving streets and public spaces, tackling waste and anti-social behaviour, and making the area more enjoyable for everyone who lives, works or visits here. For us, our Head of Place and Project Delivery, Aaron Finn will be focussing on creating a district that feels clean, safe and engaging, where people want to spend time.

Our Board, members and local stakeholders share a strong commitment to a vibrant and sustainable Fitzrovia, and together we’re showing how local businesses can lead the way in shaping better urban environments. Small changes, from new seating areas to greener streets, can have a big impact on how people experience the city.

To hear more about how businesses can drive sustainable urban change, listen to The Fitzrovia Partnership guest speak on the Urbanistica Podcast: Why Businesses, Not Governments, May Hold the Keys to Sustainable Cities.

Fitz&Sits bench Think Twice

Sustainability is an increasingly important factor for a multi-campus organisation in Fitzrovia but we can’t do it on our own. To deliver sustainable solutions, we need to work collectively as an area. The Fitzrovia Partnership is making this happen.
