Supporting businesses through policy change

A few weeks ago we hosted our latest professional networking event at FORA, bringing together members and local employers to discuss recent government policy changes and what they mean for businesses in Fitzrovia.

The session explored the implications of National Insurance adjustments, updates to employment law and the proposed changes to business rates due to take effect in April 2026. To help members prepare for these developments, we have compiled a summary of the key points discussed, available here.

Discussions at the event made clear that business rates reform remains a central concern for many local employers. The potential introduction of a higher business rates multiplier for larger premises could see some Fitzrovia businesses facing increases of between 9% and 30%, significantly affecting investment, refurbishment and job growth.

These conversations directly informed our recent letter to the Chancellor, submitted ahead of the Autumn Budget, which set out the case for a more balanced approach to reform. The letter highlights Fitzrovia’s contribution to national growth, with £13.2 billion in GVA generated in 2023, representing 2.29% of London’s economy. It also outlines key recommendations for ensuring the area remains competitive and investable. Read the full letter here.

Fitzrovia’s strength lies in its diverse business ecosystem spanning professional services, creative industries, hospitality and technology. These sectors alone are projected to create over 13,000 new jobs by 2030. Ensuring stable and predictable policy is key to sustaining that growth.

As a Business Improvement District, we are committed to advocating for our members and representing their interests to policymakers. We thank all attendees for their contributions and insights, which continue to shape our advocacy work on your behalf.
